Chair history

The Department  of Epidemiology. Bioststistics and Evidence-Based Medicine was established in December 2015, by the decision of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University Academic Council.

The first head of the department was Reznik Vitaliy Lazarevich, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. Currently, the Department is headed by Zhanna Romanova, Candidate of Medical Sciences.

The department was established to provide training for undergraduates and doctoral students on the specialty "Public Health","Ecology".

The mission of the department is to develop the human resources - specialists corresponding to modern intellectual requirements and development strategy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, possessing a high level of professional culture, having active citizenship, being able to formulate and solve modern scientific and practical problems, and successfully carry out research and management activities.

The goal of the department is to prepare master's students in the field of public health in accordance with high academic standards; to provide students with fundamental knowledge at the interface between different sciences and in the field of pedagogy and psychology, guaranteeing them professional mobility in a real developing world; to develop skills in organizing and conducting scientific research in doctoral studies.

The main activities of the department are educational, research, consulting and expert areas in the field of biomedical statistics and statistical processing of scientific research data, information technology, health information systems, evidence-based medicine, methodology of systematic reviews, protocols and recommendations, health technology assessment , scientific research methodology, scientific research management, management decision making methods in health care, teaching methods in adult education.

The department conducts training of specialists in the professional development courses and retraining of staff, scientific-pedagogical and profile magistracy and doctoral studies. In addition, the staff of the department take part in specialized courses conducted by other departments of the university.

• Study of relationships and dependencies in research;

• The basics of evidence-based medicine;

• Technologies of evidence-based medicine in clinical and management practice;

• Medical technology assessment;

• Statistical processing of scientific research data using MS Excel and SPSS;

• Strategy for the search for evidence-based medical information on the Internet, databases for scientific publications. Relational database management systems on the example of MS Access.

 

The educational program of the scientific-pedagogical and profile magistracy in the specialty "6M110200 - Public Health" was accredited by the international agency ASIIN.
