The XXI Meeting of the Coordination Council of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South («COMSATS») was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Almaty. The Council of this international intergovernmental organization meets for the first time in Kazakhstan and the post-Soviet space.
More than 30 well-known foreign experts, scientists and heads of research centers and universities of «COMSATS» member-states took part in the Meeting.
«KazNU is one of the famous Universities in the world. We are discussing the issues of the future development of science, as well as joint works in the field of renewable energy sources, environmental protection and biotechnology. The role of Universities in this issues is huge, and we have gathered here to solve global issues», said Syed Mohammed Junaid Zaidi, Executive Director of «COMSATS».
KazNU is the only HEI from the CIS, which is a member of this international organization since 2015. The tandem with «COMSATS» promotes cooperation with leading research and educational centers in 25 countries of Asia, Africa, Latin and Central America.
«Cooperation with «COMSATS» Research Centers is a unique opportunity not only to get acquainted with the scientific and technological developments of scientists from South, but also a good platform to present our own achievements and developments, exchange experiences, knowledge and technologies for sustainable development», - considers Rector of KazNU academician Galym Mutanov.
KazNU is the center of excellence of «COMSATS» in Kazakhstan, and this enables the University to actively participate in joint educational and research projects. During three years of cooperation, many scientists and doctoral students of the University have successfully undergone training and internships in the leading HEI's of the member countries of given organization.
Last year, KazNU hosted two major events organized in partnership with «COMSATS» and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), i.e. National Seminar on «Repair and Maintenance of Scientific and Engineering Equipment in Universities, Research Institutes and Small Business Enterprises» and the VII International Seminar «Internet Security: Enhancing Information Exchange Guarantees».
