The gift of the American professor for the library of al-Farabi
Professor of the Washington state university Marina Alexandrovna Tolmachyova, being a visiting professor at the Department of World History, Historiography and Source Studies from October 2018 to January 29, 2019 according to the Fulbright program, gave a lecture course "Eurasia in the Context of World History" for historians - first-year undergraduates.
On January 18 of this year, an important ceremony was held to hand over a collection of books on world history, history and culture of Eurasia and the Middle East from the personal library of the professor to the Al-Farabi Library of the Kazakh National University. This books includes monographs, scientific collections with the publications of Professor M.Tolmachyova. For example, the publication of a chronicle of the pre-colonial period of the East African city Pat (in present-day Kenya), which she translated into English from Swahali. Books on the history and culture of Africa, Saudi Arabia or Kuwait, where Professor Tolmachyova worked for more than four years, will also be useful for students of the humanities.
In addition, Professor M.Tolmachyova gave to the library a collection of 200 American films from “Hollywood Classics”. The possession of these commercial collections will allow teachers and students of the Kazakh National University to improve the English language, study the history of the film industry and familiarize themselves with the screen versions of literary classics.
