Was born in 1952. Graduated from Chemical Faculty of S. Kirov Kazakh State University in 1975.
His work experience includes a way from an intern researcher to a professor, dean of the chemical faculty, first vice-rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. Since 1997 he was the chair of non-organic chemistry cathedra, in 2009-2010 was the dean of chemical faculty.
In 1984 he presented his Candidate of sciences dissertation on the topic ”Radiation-induced chain oxidation of phosphonates in aquatic environments”. In 1996 he presented his Doctor of Science degree thesis on topic “Redox-and radiation-induced chain reactions of oxidation of lower phosphorus and arsenic in fluids. He has researched general peculiarities of oxidation of VA group compound elements by the methods of radiation chemistry.
With the help of international scholarship finances he has organized several International Seminars and conferences. M. Burkitbayev has initiated and on behalf of Kazakhstan has managed several large International projects (Kazakhstan-United Kingdom) in the network of “Science for peace” NATO Program, UNESCO, MAGATE, ISTC. With the help of International Scholarship finances modern radiation ecology laboratory equipped with latest generation facilities, is created in the university. Results of scientific-research works are actively used in study process.
M. Burkitbayev is one of the organizers and executive secretary of the first Kazakh scientific English language journal "Euroasian Chemico-Technological Journal", member of an editorial board of “International Journal on Chemistry and Biology”. He is a member of Higher Attestation Commission expert committee. Member of MAGATE international commission on former Semipalatinsk nuclear polygon issues.
Under supervision of professor M. Burkitbayev 6 Candidates of Sciences and 3 PhDs have presented their dissertations.
Awarded with the Ministry of Education and Science badge “For merits in development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan”, “10 years of Astana” medal. In 2007 was awarded NATO program’s “Science for Piece” prize.
